TikTok's Google Play ratings are down to 1.3 stars from 4.5 stars a few days back.

“An app with 1 star rating will still be available for download even after it gets poor ratings. However, there will be a huge impact on future downloads of the apps as most of it is dependent on reviews,” Vivek Shah who develops applications told Business Insider India.

Moreover, there are several instances which suggest that the massive amount of 1-star reviews be removed if the rating falls to 1.

The Zoom app experience

Zoom, the video calling app which saw 1900% user growth during quarantine, has been in such a situation two months back. Zoom faced a lot of heat for its unresolved security concerns which used to let hackers barge into any video calls.

Thousands of people dropped negative comments which brought the ratings down from 4.5 star to 2.0. However, the ratings were back to 4.0 a few days later — more so Google did not comment on how that happened.

Another similar incident happened in China, where thousands of students gave negative comments

about DingTalkon the Apple play store to escape online classes. However, it was available for download even after that.

Business Insider wrote to both Google and TikTok at the time of writing this story and is yet to get a response.

Faisal Siddiqui — Prince of Team Nawab who had 13.5 million followers — was accused of encouraging acid attacks on women in his latest video. TikTok suspended Siddiqui’s account for violating “multiple community terms.”

Twitter users who saw the video are angry and furious saying that Siddiqui should be behind the bars for promoting acid attacks on girls who reject marriage or relationship proposals.

A large number of people including Rekha Sharma, chairperson of National Commission for women called for a ban on the application. Bollywood Star Anupam Kher too tweeted “Ban TikTok”.

#BanTikTok has been the top trend on Twitter since 3 days now. The situation is likely to affect TikTok’s dream to double the number of users in India.
